How Do You Test a Battery Charge?Feb 14th, 2020
Even the best car battery reaches the end of its days. A battery unable to hold a charge isn't worth much. Even a good battery, however, may lose power. The only way to know where the battery stands charge-wise involves testing it. Doing so isn't too complicated.
A voltmeter tests the charge level of a battery. Connecting the voltmeter to the battery provides access to a chart that defines the charge. Don't connect anything, however, until it is safe to do so. Turn off the ignition and lights. Wear safety goggles and rubber gloves, too.
The red lead goes to the positive terminal and the black goes to the negative one. Check the reading when it appears. Disconnect the black lead first. Don't force anything off when stuck. Use pliers if necessary.
